Aleppo in the Middle East
Aleppo is located in the northwestern part of Syria. It is one of the oldest inhabited cities in the world. One of its most famous buildings is the citadel of Aleppo; having been around for more than hundreds of years and receiving thousands of visitors a year. The old Souk of Aleppo is also a known place where vendors are located selling anything from spices and food to clothing and soaps. Aleppo is known for its laurel soap, olive oil among others.
Currently
Aleppo has been suffering from civil war unrest for many years now. And currently, like the rest of the world, it is dealing with the COVID-19 pandemic; there is not enough testing being done, vaccines have not reached the public yet and public spaces are having to shut down repeatedly to try and avoid another spike. Additionally, Aleppo is also dealing with an economic crisis that has impacted the majority of the population. Because of that, food is unaffordable too many, often there is no gas for people to get and if there is, lines begin to form from early morning. So even though the effects of the war might have lessened, it is not without new challenges that Aleppo and its people prevail.
